The Community House

Kokkola’s Community House (Työväentalo) on Pormestarinkatu was built at the end of the 19th century and was originally a shop. The building was later extended in the early 20th century. Theatre activities began as early as 1905 and the first dance evening were held on January 24, 1920. The police permit for the event is on the wall of the café. During the war, the house was a hospital for the prisoners of the war.

Today, various events are held at the Workers’ Hall, the most popular of which is the Kokkola Film Festival held in September, attracting culture enthusiasts  from across the country to the city.
