Kokkola with children

Kokkola offers a lot of fun for the whole family. Indoor play parks invite you to play, VesiVeijari offers fun with a water slide, and during the summer the whole family enjoys Toivonen Animal Park. Welcome to Kokkola!

Thanks to the good transport connections and short distances, Kokkola is a great destination for families. The densely built city offers something for everyone, and moving between destinations is quick and easy either by car, on foot, by bike or by public transport.

If you are looking for a beach holiday, Kokkola has more sandy beaches than you could ever wish for. The most beautiful beaches are found around Ohtakari, where the sandy shoreline stretches out for several kilometres and offers not only a great place to swim but also an incredibly beautiful setting. Families with young children will find shallow beaches at, for example, Potinranta in Ykspihlaja and in Öja.

If you have both swimmers and disc golf enthusiasts in your family, then Laajalahti is the place for you. Both activities are accessible from the same parking area: there are duckboards leading to the beach and an 18-hole disc golf course in the forest.

Kokkola offers plenty of things to see, explore and experience for the whole family.  The brand new Brita Maria park, located right next to the city centre, is a great place with versatile sports opportunities. The park features an electronic exercise game, a climbing net, a skate park and a pump track course.

If caravan lifestyle is your thing, the Meripuisto park offers a great setting for your stay. Right by the camping area there is a swimming beach, a neighbourhood sports area, a kiosk and a hamburger restaurant. Another good option for a great caravan holiday is found in Kälviä, near the Toivonen Animal Park. In fact, the Toivonen Animal Park is definitely one of the top destinations for children!

If you do not feel like going outside, there is still plenty to do in Kokkola. You will find a laser tag arena, a movie theatre and several escape rooms in the city centre. You can also visit the Swimming Centre VesiVeijari – a swimming hall known all across Finland – which features several pools and an outside water slide.

After an eventful day, it is great to sit down for a delicious meal – and there are plenty of great, child-friendly restaurants all over Kokkola!
