Tankar with kids

The Lighthouse Island of Tankar is an exciting destination for all ages. Even the cruise on board M/S Jenny is an adventure. There is plenty to discover on the island – nature trails, a bird tower, a small beach, cliffs and the lighthouse will take young visitors imagination to a whole new world. Welcome to Tankar for a fun summer adventure!

M/S Jenny

The boat trip on M/S Jenny to Tankar takes 1.5 h / direction. If you are travelling with a pram, you can easily bring them onboard on the main deck.

The restaurant deck is located on the lower deck, where you can buy snacks and drinks from our café-restaurant. If necessary, you can ask our staff to heat up milk or babyfood in the kitchen. There are groups of tables on the restaurant deck and a high chair for the smallest passengers. The table groups provide room for activities like games and coloring books, which you can find on board.

The restaurant deck is located right at the water’s edge, the large windows offer a interesting view of the scenery and the waves. From the sun deck, you can enjoy the archipelago views in all directions. Small explorers can pack their own binoculars and spot other boats, islands and birds. perhaps you’ll spot Kokkola’s signature bird, the White-tailed Eagle?

Whenever possible, the crew can also let little passengers peek into the bridge of the ship, where the captain steers the boat.

Tankar

After M/S Jenny arrives to Tankar, you can join a free guided tour of the island which lasts about 30 min. During the tour, the guide will tell you about the history of the island and you will visit various sites such as the old church, the museum, the oldest house on the island, the old pilot station and of course the lighthouse. Except for the last part, the tour will be following the duckboards, which are also easy to follow with prams.

The lighthouse can be visited on lighthouse days, which are held on the island on Wednesdays in the summer and on Fridays during mid-season. please check our timetables for specific dates. There is a 6 € lighthouse fee for over 15-year-olds.

Ther is a small sandy beach with a raft called Roope, which will guarantee fun water games. The sauna in the quest marina can be booked via Café Tankar.

At Café Tankar you can enjoy delicious soups, which can be pre-booked online along with the boat tickets. The café also offers other home-baked delicacies, hot and cold drinks and ice cream.

The quest marina has a barbecue area and picnic tables where you can enjoy your own meals. Please note that it is strictly forbidden to make fire elsewhere. Outdoor toilets are also located in the marina. If you need a changing table or a potty, they can be found in the toilet facilities at the pilot station (Tankar Inn)

Accommodation

There are several accommodation options on the lighthouse island. We recommend the modern camping hostel Tankar Inn, for families traveling with little ones. The Tankar Inn has double rooms with an extra mattress available for an extra charge. it is also possible to bring your own baby travel cot. All rooms have a lighthouse view. Shared shower, toilet, lounge, as well a well-equipped kitchen and sauna are available for your use. You can pack your own food or have breakfast, lunch and diner at Café Tankar.
