How to travel to Kokkola

Kokkola is located on the west coast and is the provincial centre of Central Ostrobothnia. There are functional connections to Kokkola by road, plane and rail.

By plane

Kokkola-Pietarsaari Airport is located about 20 km west from the Kokkola city centre in Kruunupyy municipality. There are scheduled flights to and from Helsinki.

Taxi service to the airport can be ordered in advance.

Great transport links make KOK Airport a smooth and fast gateway to the world also for people from further away. Lentäjäntie 162, Kruunupyy.

By train

Kokkola Railway station is located in the heart of the city. The train ride between Helsinki and Kokkola takes about 3 hours 40 minutes and between Kokkola and Rovaniemi 5 hours. Further information, visit vr.fi webpage.

By bus

Bus station is locating next to the railway station (across the street) Daily tours to north, south and east. Take a closer look at the timetables of Matkahuolto. Also Onnibussi operates to Kokkola; routes Helsinki-Jyväskylä-Kokkola and Turku-Kokkola-Oulu.

By car

Kokkola is part of the Finnish main railway network and highways E8 (Turku-Oulu-Tromssa), E13 (Jyväskylä, Lappeenranta) and E28 (Kajaani) are all passing through the city. A ferry connection between Uumaja (Sweden) and Vaasa (120 km from Kokkola) operated by WasaLine, offers an opportunity to reach our town from Sweden.

Parking

There are lot of parking possibilities in the centre of Kokkola. There are places that allows free parking through display of a parking disc (the disc shows the time at which the vehicle was parked) along the streets, as well as behind the busstation. Free parking can be found around the sports hall and in the vicinity of Kokkola City Hall.

Parking garages can be found in Chydenia shopping centre, HalpaHalli, Kallentori and the former Anttila property (with parking disc).

There are parking fees at the Railwaystation and library’s parking garage.
